Law School Lore

Law School Lore
Jane M.G. Foster ’18 Photo: Cornell Law School

Jane M.G. Foster was one of only two women in Cornell Law School’s Class of 1918. She graduated near the top of her class, earned Order of the Coif, and served as an editor of the Cornell Law Quarterly. After graduation, however, no law firm would hire her as an attorney. She instead worked as a legal assistant in New York City, where she developed expertise in corporate restructuring.

Foster later used her business and financial expertise to build a successful investment career and became one of Cornell Law School’s greatest benefactors. Today, her legacy continues at Cornell Law through the Jane Foster Addition to Myron Taylor Hall, as well as a scholarship and an endowed professorship.
